She had been a long time in the cool, dark forest and she needed light. Her skin was pale and chilled, feeling taught across her muscles. Every delicate hair on her body was raised to retain her own heat.
Her senses seemed super-heightened by the cold. The bracken was lush, and as she pushed her way towards the forest edge she could feel its rough fronds scratching her loins and her legs.
The glimmer of light became more intense and she found herself in a bright clearing. The sunshine immediately warmed her front, creating a marked contrast to the cool of the shade on her back. Tiny summer flies buzzed in the air and two doves cooed in the canopy above. After a short while her perspiration had evaporated and she felt revitalised. She had seen the blue sky and knew that she could no longer live in the false security of darkness.
